The Colleges of Education and Arts and Sciences
at The University of Georgia are sponsoring an invitation-only working
conference titled "National Conference on the Intersection of Diversity
and Learning." The conference, funded in part by the National Science
Foundation, is scheduled for May 18-20, 2006.
The overarching theme of the conference is the
relationship between diversity and learning throughout different yet
interconnected contexts, which include: pre-K-12 education, higher
education, the community, the workplace, and preparing future faculty.
The intellectual significance of the conference comes from the
interdisciplinary dialogue in which we will engage during the two days.
Experts who study diversity in these different disciplines and contexts
will lead conference participants in an exploration and identification
of the critical issues that are unique to the study of the
diversity-learning relationship in each of the five contexts as well as
facilitate the discovery of the core strategies that facilitate
diversity as an opportunity for learning across contexts. Our goal is
to build a structure that will generate knowledge regarding diversity
and learning within these disciplines.
To join this dynamic and engaging work, please
take a few minutes to register
with the Georgia Center for Continuing Education and let us know you
can join us. As an invited participant, there is no
fee associated with conference and meals and break refreshments
will be
provided. We need to ask you to register to plan for food and other
amenities that will be available for you during the conference.
More conference
details are forthcoming, including information on featured speakers,
activities that will guide the dicussions, and documents to review to
guide discussions during the working conference. We will continue to
update the site in the coming weeks and will let all attending know
when new information is available.
